In the 21 most recession-proof cities, Austin falls near the top of the list at #3! Texas had the most cities of any state of the list with Dallas (#7), El Paso (#9), Houston (#11), McAllen (#15), and San Antonio (#19) all making the list.
Texas’s housing market and unemployment rates have stayed fairly steady in comparison to the rest of the country since the recession began. Austin tops the list because job cuts with the government and the University of Texas have been minimal. Add to that our booming tech trade, and our spending and therefore our economy has stayed strong.
Yet another reason to love this town!

Kick off celebrations for the Fourth of July on the third at Pioneer Farms. See how they did things in the 1800’s with horse drawn carriages and hay rides. Check out the
Blacksmith shop and the Cotton Planter’s Farm while you there, as well as performances by the Lost Hope Gunfighters.
July 4th’s annual fireworks show will be held once again at Auditorium Shores with live music from The Austin Symphony Orchestra, under direction by conductor Peter Bay. Admission is absolutely free! Enjoy classic performances by the orchestra, leading up to the big fireworks display at 9:30.
No word on what happens if the performance is rained out, so let’s hope for a break in the weather!
We want to wish you all a happy and safe Fourth of July!

Even if you’ve never heard of Nikola Tesla, he has affected your life. Tesla was a revolutionary in the field of electromagnetism, and without him we would not have electricity as we know it today. His most famous invention was the Tesla Coil. Tesla was well-known for his many eccentricities, and was thought to have OCD, as well as being obsessed with pigeons and ended his life as a recluse. He was a fascinating character and if you ever have the time, I recommend reading up on his life.
This Saturday, Pump Project will be presenting The Tesla Project, featuring artwork from over 30 local artists, inspired by the work of Nikola Tesla. There will be live music as well as screenings of All About Tesla throughout the day. Proceeds will benefit Easter Seals.
The Tesla Project will be held at 1109 Shady Lane.
