Each month Austin Java brings us their Around the World Coffee Tasting at their original location at 12th & Lamar, which is only a mile away from our Gables Pressler apartments location. This month Austin Java brings you a sample of Brazilian flavor to amp up your caffeine buzz.
Living in Austin we’re often surrounded by enticing events like wine tastings and entire weeks of sampling food at reduced prices. Sometimes I wonder how we’re not all 400 lbs, but then I remember what an active community Gables Pressler apartments is and I understand why. October will not have a shortage of mouth-watering events in Austin to stretch our waistlines, but the 8th Annual Film & Food Gala is too good to miss.

The Gala is the predecessor to the Film & Food Festival, a week-long exploration of young filmmakers. Proceeds from ticket sales will be going to benefit AFF’s Young Filmmakers Program, encouraging children to “explore their creativity and improve their literacy skills through the arts of screenwriting and filmmaking.”
The Film & Food Gala will be held on October 20 at the Driskill Hotel with the Festival following from October 21-28.

We are very lucky at Gables Pressler apartments to live only 4 miles away from the original Central Market North Lamar location. As the original location of Central Market, the North Lamar store has the biggest and best of the Central Market extravaganzas, and has even become its own tourist attraction. In celebration of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, Central Market is throwing a Dia de los Muertos party & parade.
See the giant Dia de los Muertos puppets in the parade, watch a performance by the Austin Samba School, Acadêmicos da Ópera, and enjoy live Latin dance tunes all day. The parade will last from 6:30 to 9:00pm in the courtyard area on October 30. Learn to create your own sugar skull in the cooking school. Two classes will be held, one at 10:00am and one at 2:00pm.
Are you going to attend the Dia de los Muertos event at Central Market?
